Since 1968, athletics has been part

of the Special Olympics World Games.


In athletics, you do different sports:

  • running

    Athletes run a certain distance.

    For example, 500 metres or 1.5 kilometres.

  • long jump

    The athletes jump into a large sand pit.

    The judges measure how far they have jumped.

  • shot put

    Athletes have a small steel ball.

    They throw the ball into a field.

    The judges measure

    the distance the ball has been thrown.

How many people do athletics at the World Games?

750 athletes.

Athletics takes place at Hanns-Braun-Stadion

in the Olympiapark.
