Bocce

Since 1991, bocce has been part of the Special Olympics World Games.

 

How to play bocce:

You play bocce on grass or sand.

2 teams compete against each other.

Each team has 4 balls.

There is also a smaller ball on the court.

The smaller ball is called pallina.

Each team has to throw its balls as close

as possible to the pallina.

Unified Sports®

In Unified Sports®, people with ID and

people without disabilities play sport together.

They also compete together.

The people with ID are called athletes.

The people without disabilities are called partners.

 

Is bocce a Unified Sport?

Yes.

There are teams of people with ID.

And there are teams of people with ID and people without disabilities.

 

How many people play bocce at the World Games?

247 athletes and 50 partners.
