What was left over from the National Games Berlin 2022: a lot of material for new things. About 1000m of banners, 500m of construction fence fabric and over 30 printed stage and photo backgrounds have been produced and now find a new purpose.

They decorated the venues in Berlin – be it the walls of the swimming hall, the fences of the beach volleyball field or the photo background of the award ceremony. But where to put the printed banners and fabrics after such an event?

The photo shows a scene during the tennis competition at the Special Olympics National Games Berlin 2022. The player in the foreground is serving and in the background you can see a banner advertising the games. These banners were upcycled for products in our webshop.

Thanks to the upcycling project by Special Olympics and the Lichtenberger Werkstätten (Lichtenberg workshops, LWB), the banners now shine in new way. The LWB used the materials to create chic carry and roll-top bags, pouches, pencil cases and even pennant chains.

Turn old into new – upcycling is the name of the game. The pieces are not only sustainable, but each one is unique. Some are purple, some are blue, some might have a white "Special" on them, others might have the first letters of Berlin on them.

The products of the upcycling collection are colorful, varied and unique. They are handmade from different materials of the National Games Berlin 2022 and you can find them now in the Special Olympics Shop.
